Too many choices

I know I’ve mentioned a couple of times already how exciting I think it is when the seed catalogs start arriving. In addition to the previously mentioned D. Landreth Seed Company catalog that was passed on to me from a friend, I’ve now also received (and these are just the ones I didn’t immediately toss in the trash) Burpee, Abundant Life Seeds, van Bourgondien, John Scheepers Kitchen Garden Seeds, and Territorial Seed Co.

I had paged through the D. Landreth catalog a couple of weeks ago and dog-eared MANY pages. . . thinking I would go back later and pare down.  But now I’ve got all these other
catalogs as well. . . I’m having a hard time getting past the “A”s.  (Decisions involving asparagus are pretty long-term, you know, so you need to be sure.) ;)

I think I’ve decided on carrots already—probably pretty much a repeat of last year, which was basically a mixed-color packet that had red, orange, yellow, purple, and white.  I
hate to limit myself as far as carrots are concerned.

And I so loved the Jade bush beans that we grew for the U of M trials a couple of summers ago, I was planning on just getting Jade beans and leaving it at that. . . but none of the catalogs I’ve gotten seem to offer those (strange, because they’re really awesome beans, and I’ve purchased them before).

I know potatoes are out this year (which makes me kind of sad because the potatoes we grew last year are really good—but we do get great potatoes from our CSA, so we’ll still have fresh potatoes), but of course I’ve got the sweet potato decision to make. I will definitely be trying a purple sweet potato, and probably at least one orange variety.

Trevor’s aunt has a greenhouse in Ada, MN, and I will get all my tomato plants from her—she grows a huge variety of heirloom tomatoes and it’s so much fun to choose tomatoes at her place! I’ll probably just pick up my pepper plants from her, too, while we’re there.

Which leaves not much more space in our garden—I always debate lettuce or mesclun of some kind, because we eat a LOT of salad. Anyone have suggestions of types of lettuce that have done well or that you particularly like the taste of? It’s already January 12 (happy birthday yesterday, Geneva!) so I’ve got to get this order placed!  :)

My sweet baby girl about 19 years ago--hope you had a wonderful birthday, G!

Ok, I’ll try not to do this every day. . . but the latest rabbit stats update is that yesterday someone found my blog while searching for “spot rabbit pooh in back yard.”  Seriously, is someone just having me on?
