We’ve all had things we’ve planned turned out wrong. And then, once in a while, something just comes together perfectly in spite of our efforts, not because of them.
I am reminded of that this time year when I look at my front garden bed. Granted, it is one of the most recently planted beds I have, so I definitely knew more about gardening when I planted this one.
But I can’t help but think that most of what really works in it happened sort of by accident.
I love the way the colors all complement each other and play off one another. The daylilies (Midnight Magic–some that I moved out of the Harry Potter garden) are the perfect color to bring out the dark red Ninebark behind them (and also sort of go with the old red pump), and their yellow centers bring out the yellow of the goldenrod. I’ve got lilies planted in this garden as well–they’ve just finished blooming within the past week or so and they’re dark maroon and yellow (two different kinds).
I guess I love the way this garden looks mostly because it sort of makes me look like I know what I’m doing.
