The harvest begins

The tomato harvest has begun! The little ones, especially, seem a bit late this year for some reason–which is a little odd, since we actually planted early since it was so warm this spring.

But they are coming like gangbusters now–little ones, big ones, medium ones. . . and all different colors!  I just love the way a bowl of tomatoes looks when it’s all different kinds–I’m not sure why that’s so exciting to me, but it always has been. :)

Here’s a crazy-looking little one–sort of medium-sized and sort of striped green and red.  I have no idea what it’s called, because of course I’m not nearly organized enough to keep track of the names of the tomatoes I get if they don’t come with those little plastic tags.  But it really doesn’t matter to me–I just think they’re fun.

I think I’m going to try a new recipe for yellow pear tomato jam this weekend (Trevor will have to help me, since I’m not allowed to lift the canner, but he said he’s game)–it has lemon peel and lemon juice in it, so it sounds pretty good.  I’ll let you know how it turns out! :)
