I thought I would share one of my favorite plants–Rudbeckia ‘Herbstsonne’. It’s commonly called Black-eyed Susan, but this cultivar actually has green “eyes” that turn brown later in the season. I’m not a huge fan of Black-eyed Susans (or daisy-style flowers in general), but I love this one.
It’s so carefree and un-fussy–it grows about 6-7 feet tall, blooms all through August and into September, and, in spite of it’s height, doesn’t ever need staking.
I’ve got a few of these, and although they are not aggressive spreaders, I do find new plants coming up here and there, where I don’t want them–so I just dig them out and put them in a spot where a gorgeous, tall flower will work. I’ve got about three little volunteers that look good at this point–I’ll have to find places to put them this fall. But I’m thinking that won’t be a problem!
