We went out to Bluebird Gardens on Saturday morning, bright and early (why is it that every day I don’t have to get up early for work, I seem to think of another reason why I have to get up early anyway??) and harvested our final veggies of the season.
We got 24 squash, a 5-gallon pail of potatoes, and a 5-gallon pail of mixed carrots and beets.
Then, you guessed it–we went home and had to take care of all those wonderful veggies.
I cleaned off another canning shelf, as we had more squash than last year (partly because a coworker of Trevor’s had already given us a box of Buttercup squash). I gave a couple to my mom and a couple to my sister, and I also have about 8 smaller ones “decorating” the kitchen. (What that really means is that I’m planning on cooking with them, really soon, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.)
We’ve got a cooler full of potatoes in the garage, for lack of knowing what else to do with them for now–our basement seems to be too warm and I don’t have room in the fridge for all of them. Anybody out there have a great potato-storage solution for me?
In the meantime, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. . . it will be good to get back to work this morning and get some rest. 😉
